How does RibXcar rib reshaping work?
RibXcar is a new scarless rib reshaping technique. No incisions are made in the flanks. Remodeling is performed using ultrasound, and the surgical technique is guided by ultrasound.
The RibXcar technique is a rib fracture remodelling technique. It is therefore much safer than the old technique of remodeling by rib removal (costectomy). It is the simplest procedure, and the only one that preserves the integrity of the rib cage.
- To begin, your plastic surgeon evaluates the area using ultrasound.
- It places anatomical markers to refine the waist in harmony with the rest of the body.
- The patient is placed under general anaesthetic.
- The surgeon performs a puncture of the right and left lower ribs.
- He then introduces a Piezotome ® (an ultrasound device capable of producing 30,000 vibrations/second) through these puncture points.
- It uses vibrations to weaken the bones of the lower ribs without making an incision.
- The final reshaping is achieved by applying pulsed vibrations generated by the device. The fracture follows an oblique line, creating a deeper waistline.
During the entire procedure, the operated area is monitored by ultrasound. The surgeon can therefore see exactly what he or she is doing, increasing the reliability and safety of the surgical procedure.
What happens after the rib reshaping procedure?
After the surgeon has reshaped the ribs, an abdominal corset or support belt is placed on the patient's torso. This garment exerts a compressive force that stabilizes the new angulation of the ribs.
It is worn for at least 2 to 3 months after the operation, while the ribs heal and the final result is achieved.
What are the results of ultrasonic rib reshaping?
A satisfaction study was carried out after 30 rib reshaping operations performed on women aged 18 to 35 in Peru, Colombia and Mexico in 2022.
The results are indisputable: long-term results are satisfactory for 100% of patients.
