Would you like a flat, firm stomach after pregnancy, weight loss or simply to correct the sagging skin associated with aging? Abdominoplasty is the ideal procedure to refine your figure and restore tone to your abdomen.

In Paris, Dr Delobaux supports each and every patient with tailor-made care, adapted to their morphology and expectations.

What is abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to improve the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess skin and correcting muscle laxity.

It is ideal for people with excess skin following pregnancy or major weight loss, as well as for those with diastasis of the abdominal muscles (spreading or loosening of the abdominal muscles). Natural aging can also lead to a loss of skin elasticity, accentuating abdominal sagging.

Labdominoplasty in a nutshell :

  • Removal of excess skin and muscle firming
  • Indicated after pregnancy, weight loss or skin ageing
  • Corrects diastasis of abdominal muscles
  • Restores figure and self-confidence

What are our different abdominoplasty techniques?

Every patient's morphology is different. That's why Dr Delobaux offers several abdominoplasty techniques adapted to each patient's needs.

Tummy tuck with umbilical transposition

This is a complete abdominoplasty in which the plastic surgeon removes significant excess skin above and below the navel. The navel is then repositioned to maintain a natural appearance and, if necessary, the abdominal muscles are tightened to firm the wall.

Mini-abdominoplasty or abdominal mini-lift

This technique is dedicated to patients with moderate excess skin, mainly below the navel. It does not require repositioning of the navel, and therefore reduces scarring compared to full abdominoplasty. The post-operative period is also simplified.

Hybrid mini-abdominoplasty

This technique is dedicated to patients with moderate excess skin above and below the navel. A removal of the navel is possible in some cases, but without visible scarring, thus reducing scarring compared to full abdominoplasty. Skin retraction technologies such as RENUVION can be used to help tighten the skin above the navel. Abdominal muscles can also be repaired. The post-operative period is also simplified.

Reverse abdominoplasty

This technique is designed for people with sagging skin, mainly above the navel. The scar is located in the submammary folds, allowing the sagging skin to be pulled upwards, in contrast to classic abdominoplasty or mini-abdominoplasty, in which the skin is pulled downwards. Scars are minimal and virtually invisible, and postoperative recovery is straightforward.

Circular abdominoplasty or Bodylift

This technique is indicated after significant weight loss, such as after bariatric surgery. A circular abdominoplasty (or 360° abdominoplasty) acts on the entire perimeter of the abdomen and back, offering an overall transformation of the abdomen, hips and lower back.

Each technique is chosen according to the patient's morphology, skin quality and aesthetic expectations.

Abdominoplastyabdominoplasty in brief :

  • Complete abdominoplasty : skin removal, repositioning of the navel, muscle tightening.
  • Mini-abdominoplasty: excess skin only present below the navel, more discreet scar.
  • Hybrid mini-abdominoplasty: excess skin present above and below the navel, more discreet scar, navel deposition possible, skin retraction with RF.
  • Reverse abdominoplasty : excess skin above the navel only, more discreet scar under the breasts.
  • Circular abdominoplasty: after significant weight loss, overall transformation of the abdomen and lower back.
  • Personalized choice according to each patient's morphology and expectations.

What happens before your abdominoplasty?

Prior to abdominoplasty, a pre-operative consultation is required. During this consultation, Dr Delobaux analyzes the patient's silhouette, checks muscle tone and skin quality. He will also assess the patient's medical history and any potential risks associated with the procedure. It is also an opportunity for the patient to define his or her expectations and ask any questions he or she may have.

During the pre-operative consultation, the surgeon performs a thorough clinical examination:

  • Analysis of the patient's silhouette;
  • Skin quality assessment ;
  • Measuring excess skin and fat ;
  • Detection of abdominal muscle diastasis.

On this basis, he will then draw up a personalized treatment plan, including the most suitable technique, and the position and length of the scars. The surgeon will also assess the need for liposuction prior to abdominoplasty.

Finally, as before any surgical operation, the patient must undergo a blood test and a consultation with the anaesthetist.

Preoperative steps in brief:

  • Consultation: figure analysis and definition of patient expectations.
  • Clinical examination: skin quality, excess skin, presence of diastasis.
  • Personalized treatment plan.
  • Medical preparation: blood test and consultation with the anaesthetist.

What is the procedure for your abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty is performed in a Paris clinic under general anesthesia. It generally lasts between 1h30 and 3 hours, depending on the technique chosen.

The incision is placed discreetly in the pubic area so that it can be easily hidden by undergarments. Excess skin and fat are removed, the abdominal muscles can be tightened if necessary, and the navel repositioned in the case of a full abdominoplasty.

The scar is then precisely sutured, and a compression garment is put in place to support the operated area. The patient usually remains in hospital overnight for monitoring.

The procedureabdominoplasty in brief :

  • Surgery under general anaesthetic
  • Duration: 1h30 to 3h
  • Discreet incision in the pubic area
  • Removal of excess skin and muscle tightening if necessary
  • Navel repositioning technique
  • Dressing and compression garment to support the operated area
  • Overnight hospitalization for monitoring.

What happens after abdominal liposuction?

After abdominoplasty combined with liposuction, swelling and bruising naturally appear in the first few days. They gradually disappear over the following weeks.

Pain is generally moderate, and can be relieved with analgesics. A feeling of tension is common. Wearing a compression garment is recommended for four to six weeks to reduce swelling and aid healing.

Patients can resume their daily activities after ten to fifteen days, while sporting activities are not recommended for six weeks.

The final result is revealed after three to six months, when the swelling has subsided and the scars have softened.

The post-operative course of abdominoplastyabdominoplasty :

  • Natural swelling and bruising
  • Moderate pain
  • Compression garment for 6 to 8 weeks
  • Resumption of daily activities after 10-15 days
  • Resuming sport after 6 weeks
  • Definitive result after 3 to 6 months
  • Regular post-operative follow-up
