Also known as the Brazilian butt lift, the Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to increase the volume of the buttocks, sculpting the entire silhouette to make it sexy and attractive. It involves injecting fat cells taken from other areas. The result is a fuller, shapelier buttock, like that of young Brazilian women who flaunt their beautiful figures in swimsuits.

SMART BBL (Safe Modern and Artistic Brazilian Butt Lift) is an image-guided buttock fat injection technique developed by Paris-based plastic surgeon Dr Delobaux. It enables a safe procedure to be performed, thanks to image control during fat injections into the buttocks. 

Dr. Alexis Delobaux was the first cosmetic surgeon in Europe to use ultrasound for gluteal lipofilling or Brazilian Butt Lift, and as such is a pioneer in this highly specialized field.

Objectives of a SMART Brazilian Butt Lift

The aim of the Brazilian Butt Lift is to :

Brazilian Butt Lift procedure

The Brazilian Butt Lift is performed under general or local anesthesia. In the latter case, a single area of fat is removed and reinjected.

The procedure lasts around 3 hours, with an overnight hospital stay.

  • LIPOASPIRATION: In the first phase, all pre-defined fatty areas are slowly and gently suctioned away by liposuction to sculpt the silhouette for a slimmer bust and harmonious, attractive curves.
  • PREPARATION: The second phase consists in preparing the fat cells: they are washed with saline solution and purified by decantation. Each jar of fat tissue requires approximately 30 minutes of washing.
  • REINJECTION: The third phase involves depositing fat cells in the gluteal muscles and transition zones to create the desired shape and volume. These fat cells are deposited in drop form and at different depths to achieve the best fat cell survival rate.

Before brazilian butt lift surgery

Before a bbl operation, you will be given a quote, an information sheet and informed consent. An incompressible period of 15 days is required to allow you to reflect calmly on your decision. If your decision is positive, you will be asked to take a blood sample and to see the anaesthetist for the obligatory pre-operative visit, which must take place in the month preceding the operation.

Preoperative consultation

Each patient describes the result she would like to achieve for her bust, buttocks and sometimes thighs.

A blood test is required to check blood cells, hemoglobin levels, liver and kidney function, serologies and blood group.

After brazilian butt lift surgery

After a bbl operation, a convalescence period of one week is necessary and sufficient. You will be able to sit on your buttocks, but you should avoid doing so for too long during the first week. You must wear a lipopanty for one month.

The results

The brazilian butt lift is a painless procedure. Scars are virtually non-existent. Any marks left on the skin correspond to the diameter of the cannulas used for fat removal and reinjection. Results are long-lasting and the appearance remains natural.

The final result is judged after about 3 months, the time needed to evaluate the rate of fat cell resorption. A second operation is sometimes necessary to perfect the result.
