The technique of breast prosthesis fitting

Breast prostheses, also known as breast implants, are silicone envelopes filled with saline or gel.
Round and curved, they are designed to match the patient's desired breast shape and size, while maintaining a natural appearance.
Thanks to advances in cosmetic surgery, there are now many different types of breast prosthesis. Each type varies according to the desired result and fitting techniques.
The purpose of a breast implant is to modify the shape and volume of the breast. A breast implant is intended to improve the shape and firmness of your breasts, or simply to make them fuller.
Women who choose to have breast implants do so for several reasons:
- Increasing breast size;
- Improving self-image;
- After breast cancer: breast reconstruction / reconstructive surgery;
- Correction of problems caused by previous breast surgery.
The different types of breast prosthesis

Breast implants come in many shapes and sizes.
The most recurrent questions concern the choice of implant type and positioning: round or anatomical? Gel or saline ? In front of or behind the muscle?
We know these considerations are important, and we'll guide you through the process of selecting the ideal implant.
Round breast prosthesis
Round breast implants are generally used in cases where the patient only wishes to increase breast volume . Round implants are ideal for patients who wish to achieve round, natural-looking breasts with a minimally invasive approach.
Silicone breast prosthesis
These breast forms are implants filled with silicone gel. They offer a more natural result and limit the phenomenon of rippling.
Silicone gel-filled breast implants have been shown to be superior to saline-filled breast implants in terms of longevity and reduced rippling.
Saline breast forms
The round, saline-filled breast prosthesis is one of the most affordable options. These prostheses don't feel very natural, and the result can change rapidly.
Polyurethane breast forms
Round polyurethane breast forms are filled with silicone gel, giving them a more realistic look and feel. Their coating is made entirely of polyurethane, which limits the risk of rotation and the appearance of shells. This type of breast form is the most expensive on the market.
Procedure for breast surgery: fitting breast implants

During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will guide you in choosing your breast prostheses from the various options, according to your needs and desires.Â
A 3D simulation can be carried out in our clinic to give you an idea of what your new breast forms will look like.
For this type of breast surgery, a hospital stay of 1 to 2 days is required.
Procedure for fitting breast implants:
Insertion of the breast prostheses involves making incisions of around 4 cm on the left and right sides of the chest.Â
The incision can be made in several places, depending on the desired result: under the fold of the breast, through or around the nipple, or in the hollow of each armpit. It doesn't take long to recover from this procedure, and you can return to work after a week.
The location of the prosthesis varies according to the surgeon's indications.Â
- Retro-glandular position;
- The retro-pectoral position;
- Dual plan position.
This choice is made after a clinical examination, and according to the type and size of prosthesis used. The patient's anatomy is also taken into account when choosing the implant location.
After the operation
In the postoperative phase, it is recommended to :
- Take analgesics to reduce pain;
- Wait 2 months before resuming sport;
- Wait 1 week before returning to work and normal daily activity (no lifting, driving, etc.);
- Wear a support bra for 8 days.
The appearance of edema fades after three weeks.
The results of breast implant surgery are guaranteed, visible and permanent. The day after the operation, you'll already be able to see the increased volume of your new breasts.
Stem cells will play their essential regenerative role during all stages of treatment, accelerating the natural processes involved.
Breast augmentation: hospitalization, anesthesia and procedure duration
Post-operative hospitalization lasts 1 day.
Surgery is always performed under general anaesthetic.
On average, breast implant surgery lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour. Somebreast augmentation procedures can take up to 2 hours.
Convalescence lasts an average of 15 days.
Before/after results of breast prostheses

The results of breast implants are guaranteed, visible and permanent. You'll be able to see the increase in breast volume the very next day.
The final result is visible 4 to 6 months after the operation.
Women who have undergone breast augmentation can continue to breastfeed, fly, sleep on their stomachs or exercise. The mammary gland is not affected by the placement of implants.
Inserting prostheses does not alter nipple sensitivity.
It will be necessary to renew the installation approximately every 15 to 20 years.
Breast augmentation price
The price of breast surgery depends on the type of prostheses and the technique used.
Breast implant augmentation in Paris costs an average of âŹ3,500.
The price of this breast surgery is indicative. It does not include post-operative expenses (painkillers, support bra, etc.), nor the anesthetist's fees.Â
Covered breast augmentation
Breast augmentation surgery is purely cosmetic. It is therefore not covered by Social Security orMedicare.
Alternative to breast implants: breast lipofilling
Would you like to increase the volume of your breasts, but don't want to resort to breast implants? There's another solution! You can have less invasive plastic surgery: breast lipofilling.
Breast lipofilling involves removing excess fat from certain areas of your body (stomach, thighs, arms, etc.) and injecting it into your breasts.
This is a more "natural" surgical procedure, since no foreign bodies are involved. The risks of rejection and infection are drastically reduced. In addition, breasts augmented by lipofilling often have a more natural appearance.
And implants do not need to be replaced every 15 to 20 years.
